The Power of Story

Our Lives are Lived in the Language of Story

Life writing can be an important means of self-discovery, self-determination, and transformation. Writing the stories of our past can help us define a healthy future. As we reveal our often chaotic experiences we become more aware of our lives under the fragmented surface. We learn who we are as we put ourselves into words. A new understanding of who we are can provide the possibility for change and perhaps a whole new story for ourselves.

Life writing helps us find our hidden voice. As we harvest the thoughts and feelings of our lives we discover that many of the unpleasant and dysfunctional moments can be overpowered by wonderful memories bringing much pleasure and joy. To enhance our efforts of self-discovery, self-determination, and transformation we focus on the positive memories while acknowledging the negative, using them only as a discovery tool. Bringing together this learning process can help us find many buried qualities like leadership, courage, ambition, and persistence.

It is here, in Walk with Women life writing workshops, that we come together to Write, Read, Share, and Celebrate the stories of our lives. It is a place without criticism, where the process of revealing ourselves in story can provide a path to self-discovery.
